President's Message
It's a Sell-Out!!  Please be seated by 6.30 pm on Thursday evening for our special evening meeting with Peter Lester and his "Inside story on the America's Cup".  We've gone over the 100 places available, and the guest list is closed.  Note that the meal will be buffet, but with tables individually invited to queue. Brian requests exemplary behaviour and patience - to make Peter L and all our guests feel especially welcome!

As notified at our last meeting we've a great list of upcoming speakers, and some exciting new projects for which planning will be commencing soon.  Leading up to the election we have two more politicians presenting, following the earlier two.  It's a good chance to ask relevant questions on real issues.  See elsewhere in the Bulletin for our list of speakers.

Last Saturday, I visited a location about 100 m from our clubrooms in Waiatarua Reserve where over 20 Rotarians from Ellerslie, Auckland South, and Highbrook clubs were planting trees. Toni and I 'represented' St Johns, not that I was any use with a recovering ankle. My interest was to assess the site as a possibility for future 'Trees for Survival' plantings by students at our partner schools.  And this looks promising.  Talk about local, rather than Clevedon!

Lat Thursday, Donald Bowie and I visited a colleague from Auckland East Rotary to learn about running the Soap Box Derby in early April 2018.  This will need a team of  active and youthful (at heart) organisers to work with schools, Council, and local businesses to make this event on Stonefields Ave a success. More information, and invitations to participate, are coming soon.
Stories
Peter Lester - The America's Cup from the Inside (Evening, 3 August)
We are delighted to report this evening event will be a FULL HOUSE with 106 attending (so no stragglers permitted).  To meet the high ticket demand, tables will be cozy but stretched to seat nine per table.  Please arrive by 6:00 pm to allow time to order drinks and select a table.  Be ready to be seated by 6:25 pm, where to ease catering congestion we will be invited to the buffet table-by-table.

This will be a scintillating and entertaining evening featuring NZ's voice of the America's Cup (since 2002) and New Zealand Yachtsman of the year in 1977 and 1987.
