If you missed last week's meeting you missed an impressive and challenging presentation from a likely future member of parliament. Chloe Swarbrick is at no. 8 on the Greens list and may have a chance if their party vote recovers from recent lows.  At 23, some who haven't heard her might question her suitability, but how about our first NZ parliament in 1853 when one James Stuart-Wortley aged 20 represented Christchurch Country. That might have been an appropriate trivia question at the RYLA Alumni evening last Friday?

 

This Thursday, we've a jam-packed meeting. Moving on from our political theme of recent weeks, we are very grateful to have Raewynne Jacobs as our speaker.  Raewynne is the Funding Programme Manager at Foundation North. And what's Foundation North? It holds in trust for our communities an endowment from ASB (when kiwi-owned) of over NZ$1 billion! - and allocates $ millions each year to Auckland and Northland's not-for-profit groups.  Also this Thursday, we welcome back our Fijian contingent of Ainie, Penny, Aubrey, Donald, and Miles who will report on their stimulating week on Taveuni Is. where they helped complete a teacher's new home.  

 

Note we have a special evening meeting on 7th Sept. when we will host 54 national and international delegates from the Rotary Symposium held at Waipuna Lodge. Please RSVP to Brian soon to avoid missing out. That will be one meeting where we will happily be out-numbered by our guests!
