President's Message
Peter touched on his Changeover Presentation regarding the committees of the Club: Club Services, Community and International, Youth Services and the newly formed committee Environment and Science.    Peter went onto say that we’re already undertaking environmental and science activities and noted incoming international President Ian Riseley's address spoke of one of the key objectives of Rotary 2017/18 that of sustainability.  Peter advised members to consider what committee they would like to join but with the possibility to reallocate members if committees lack adequate membership.
Stories
Mad Scientist Takeover
President Peter's first meeting was celebrated with a number of members dressing to a 'mad scientist' theme.
Brian Fergus Director Club Services Publicity Strategy
Brian spoke about understanding the purpose and function of Rotary to enable us to develop our Rotary strategy.  Brian also referred to Speakers we engage and what type of Speakers the Club is interested in.  It is important that we all support Namrata by providing feedback regarding suitable speakers from education, health and business sectors.

Nick Goddard Directors Environment and Science Committee
Nick has been a member of the Club for 12 months and is the newly appointed Director of this Committee. He is currently undertaking a Masters in Business degree majoring in sustainability. Nick spoke of evidence  of the Ross Ice shelf melting, not just the oceans. He mentioned the irregular seasonal events will become the norm, that is climate change will become climate disruption.  The people of Kiribati have experienced this first hand and have become environmental migrants due to climate disruption.  As a current committee of one, Nick is looking forward to fellow members joining his team. Nick concluded his talk by quoting Socrates ’building the new, not fighting the old’.

Did you join Rotary to do good things in the community?
You do not have to be a member of the committee organising these to go to the director and / or project team leader and offer to take on a role.  In most cases you can include family and friends.  Enjoy you Rotary:  Be an active Rotarian.
Meetings are an enjoyable time for socialising/networking, planning and some learning
Partners, family and friends are always welcome but if possible please let Club Service Director know for numbers (don't want to run out of the great food).  Of course, evening meetings with the high-profile speakers are an especially ideal time to invite people.
